Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman's NYC Home

BEHIND OUR DESIGN OF AN ICONIC HOME

We were honored to collaborate with Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman's family to prepare the legendary Hollywood couple’s NYC pied-à-terre for its next chapter, as featured in The New York Times.

From selecting paint colors and pavers to custom window treatments, rugs and furniture, Vesta’s NY Creative Director Christina Slater married original details and memorabilia from the past four decades with modern furnishings in this Fifth Avenue residence, listed by Noble Black and Jennifer Stillman at Douglas Elliman.

Stepping into the foyer of 1120 Fifth Avenue, the original wallpaper and herringbone floors immediately ground the home in its historic charm. To modernize the space without diminishing its legacy, we embraced the wallpaper as a design focal point, pairing it with a streamlined console and a curved mirror to complement the vintage patterns for a fresh and timeless vignette.

We leaned into moments of discovery: a hidden pink bar inspired matching our pink Sally lounge chairs, while the original dining room’s rich cranberry tones were softened into serene neutrals to appeal to today’s buyers.  Paul Newman’s grand piano remains a nostalgic centerpiece in the living room.

Our overall design was intended to maximize the nearly 11-foot ceilings and sweeping views of the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir in Central Park. Every detail was chosen to marry the cherished original elements with Vesta Home's modern furnishings, available to purchase so the next owner can move right in!
