Five Fathoms: Inside Jae Omar's Latest Masterpiece

Five Fathoms: Inside Jae Omar's Latest Masterpiece

Set atop a 20,000-square-foot lot in the coveted Doheny Estates, Five Fathoms is more than a home—it’s an architectural journey. Designed by acclaimed designer Jae Omar in collaboration with architect Eran Gispan and furnished by Vesta Home, this 9,800-square-foot residence is composed of five interconnected volumes, each seamlessly connected by glass-encased walkways that appear to float over meandering waterways. The effect is enchanting: water underfoot, light overhead and native plantings along the path create a spatial journey that invites pause.

"The home unfolds like chapters in a book," says Jae. "Each volume has its own rhythm, but together they form a cohesive story—one told through texture, light and movement."

The architectural concept behind Five Fathoms is rooted in reverence for natural materials and storytelling. The facade quietly unites color-matched plaster and brick, while the interiors unfold in a textural symphony—white oak millwork, bleached lattice walls, sandblasted travertine, bronze accents, and expansive glass walls that erase the boundary between indoors and out.

Furnished and styled by Vesta's Senior Designer Krystle Shine, the interiors extend the home’s sense of flow. A neutral palette of earthy greens and soft mocha tones draws directly from the surrounding landscape, creating a dialogue between the architecture and its natural setting.

The furnishings—sculptural contemporary silhouettes, warm wood and knotted linen fabrics—enhance the material richness of the home without competing with it.

Throughout the home, objects with soul—including vintage planters and decor from Olive Ateliers—bring a tactile quality that mirrors the landscape. Krystle notes, “The architecture invited light in with such intention—it shifted throughout the day, almost like a living element. My goal was to design in harmony with that natural rhythm, capturing and reflecting the light to create a sense of warmth and calm in every room.”

Jae echoes that sentiment: "We designed Five Fathoms to be immersive—where the light, materials and architecture work in concert. You don’t just pass through this home—you feel it."

In the living room, two of Vesta’s Kennedy sofas were used in ivory boucle upholstery to flank the central fireplace—a focal point that balances softness with structure beneath the home’s striking open-beam ceilings. The arrangement anchors the room in warmth and simplicity, while bringing attention to the architectural drama of light and height.

1307 N Doheny Drive Vesta

The main suite is a retreat of its own, complete with an expansive deck, custom walk-in closets and a stone-wrapped bathroom bathed in natural light from a series of overhead skylights. Every element is designed for calm and privacy, wrapped in the same warm, tactile materials found throughout the home.

A private library adds to the suite’s serenity. One of the home’s most captivating views is from here, where soft, dappled light filters beyond Vesta’s Bayonne sofa. Its curved silhouette draws your eye through the passage to the ethereal bathroom beyond—a design moment that speaks to the intentionality and flow that defines the entire property.

Every detail at Five Fathoms has been considered—from the bronze-trimmed staircases to the sunken lounge areas, rooftop deck and curated outdoor living spaces. As Krystle adds, “Collaborating with Jae Omar is always a creative high. His work is deeply intuitive—he understands how to shape space in a way that speaks to both the psyche and the senses. He brings a meditative elegance to new development that’s rare and refreshing.”

A project this thoughtful is never built alone—architect Eran Gispan, art creation and curation by D2 Art, photography by Alex Zarour of Virtually Here Studios, and garden design by Aura Cercel of Double Green Landscapes all helped bring Five Fathoms to life, each adding their own signature to the story.
